I have been stopped for a DUI in Florida - What is next?
Sometimes a driver is stopped for a minor traffic violation, speeding, improper lane change, or one of the other alleged violations of Florida Statutes Chapter 316. Typically, the officer will write a citation or warning and the driver is sent on her way. When the initial stop involves allegations of drug or alcohol use, a DUI specialist is frequently at the scene or called to the scene. Whether it is an odor of alcohol, an open container of alcoholic beverage, or an odor of marijuana / cannabis, the driver is usually questioned about their driving, where they have been, and where they were going. Once this occurs, drivers are almost always ordered out of the vehicle for further investigation.
