Who Is Responsible For Proposing DUI Laws And Standards?

NHTSA'S Office of Behavioral Safety Research

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is a government agency that recommends and shares DUI enforcement strategies. The research included in NHTSA'S Office of Behavioral Safety Research study suggests that 9.4 percent of drivers on a weekend night will test positive for cannabis / cannabinoids. The numbers of positive drug tests seem to increase at night and weekends. One study states, "recreational use is a significant component of overall drug use." Furthermore, "the presence of THC in the drivers' blood or oral fluid, rather than relying on self-report tend to have much lower (or no elevated) crash risk estimates. Likewise, better controlled studies have found lower (or no) elevated crash risk estimates."
